The Story behind the name
While there is such a thing as a wild prairie rose that is a beautiful pink bloom, grows where I live, and is the provincial flower of Alberta, that is not the reason for calling my business by that name.
Prairie Rose Florals got it's name because I live on the prairies of southern Alberta and I love roses. I have numerous varieties in my backyard but they never make it into my designs. I grow them purely for pleasure.

Hi, I'm Annetta Slingerland. I have been happily married to my husband, Darryl, for 28 years. We have a son, Aaron, who is 20. We live on an acreage in Stirling, Alberta, Canada, with our dog and cat. Together, we have built Prairie Rose Florals. Darryl has built all the infrastructure that we need for our flowers, such as a cooler, a hoop house, and a flower stand.
This year will be the seventh year I’m selling and designing bouquets, hand-tied bouquets, and designed arrangements. All flowers come from my garden, but I’m not limited to them, as I will use greenhouse-grown blooms as well on occasion. I can bring in roses, eucalyptus, proteas, mums, and carnations to add to my designs. In the last couple of years, the wedding design portion of my business has really blossomed and become a large part of the work we do here at Prairie Rose.
I love to grow dahlias, sunflowers, zinnias, peonies, and many other unique varieties of flowers. Each week, there are new flowers open and ready for harvesting.
Our growing season runs from about mid-May until frost, which is sometime in September.
Photography is also one of my favourite things to do. For the past 15 years, I have photographed many families and weddings. All the photography on this site is done by me, except the portraits. I haven't mastered that yet with my remote. :)
